Meet The Doctors
John Mauterer, DVM
Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons
A native of the city of New Orleans, Dr. Mauterer is a 1987 graduate of Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1992 he completed his residency in small animal surgery at The Ohio State University, ultimately achieving board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
After training, Dr. Mauterer remained on faculty at The OSU for two years before going into private practice in Columbus, Ohio. Then in 1998, he and his wife, Dr. Deb Mauterer, founded the Louisiana Veterinary Referral Center. From 2010 to 2012 Dr. Mauterer also worked part-time at LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, while simultaneously established his traveling surgery service. In September of 2012, Drs. John and Deb Mauterer launched the surgical services at Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists.
Dr. Mauterer lectures at national meetings and has written numerous articles and book chapters. He was co-inventor and is a patent holder of the non-endoscopic technique for gastrostomy tube placement.
As a couple, the Mauterers established the Veterinary Relief Foundation in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. They treated hundreds of injured animals for free and supplied dozens of veterinarians with much needed support, equipment, and supplies in the months following the storm. To Further their commitment to service, they now travel to Asia and Africa to provide aid to areas with the greatest need for animal health care. Closer to home, they serve regularly at the New Orleans Dream Center providing veterinary services for the homeless and those in poverty. Dr. John Mauterer also holds a seat on the Board of Advisors for Christian Veterinary Mission - USA. In 2012, se received the Southwest Veterinary Symposium's Visionary Award for his professional, educational, and community service.
Dr. Deb Mauterer
Deb Mauterer earned her Degree of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 from Iowa State University. After finishing her Small Animal Internship at Kansas State University, she completed a Residency in Small Animal Surgery at Ohio State University in 1993. She has been practicing small animal surgery here in Louisiana for the past 14 years. Her areas of interest are thoracic and abdominal surgery. Dr. Deb and Dr. John were awarded the 2012 Dean Everett Besch Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association for outstanding contribution to the profession and work in the community. She is a respected breeder of English Cocker Spaniels, and enjoys showing her own dogs. She has been on several mission trips to Vietnam, Cambodia, China, India and Thailand.
Julia Coutin, DVM
Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons
Another Louisiana native, Dr. Coutin grew up in New Orleans and attended Academy of the Sacred Heart. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in 2007, continuing on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2010.
Dr. Coutin then gained valuable experience by completing a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Florida. Thereafter, Dr. Coutin completed a three-year combined surgical residency and Master’s degree program at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Now, as a board-certified surgeon, she is thrilled to be back home in Louisiana and work close to family and friends.
Dr. Charley Aldridge
DVM, MS, DACVIM (SAIM)
Charley Aldridge attended the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010.
He followed his passion to a small animal rotating internship at Louisiana State University followed by a dual residency and Master’s Degree program at Auburn University in Internal Medicine. Dr. Aldridge became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in March of 2015.
Dr. Aldridge has a special interest in endocrine, kidney, and respiratory diseases.
He and his wife, Mollie, have two children, Libby and Charley. In his free time, Dr. Aldridge enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, yoga, gardening, and keeping his two dogs and cat entertained.
Dr. Mollie Mesman
Dr. Mollie Mesman earned both her bachelor degree and doctorate of veterinary medicine from Louisiana State University in 2007 and 2012, respectively. After graduating, she completed a small animal rotating internship at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Mesman then went on to complete her dermatology residency with the Animal Dermatology Clinic in Marina del Rey, CA from 2013-2016. She obtained Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) in November 2016. Dr. Mesman and her family relocated back to Baton Rouge to start the dermatology service here at Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists.
Outside of work, Dr. Mesman stays active with her husband and their two toddlers. She loves all things Boston Terrier, cooking, and traveling.
Meet The Staff
Amanda graduated college in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She also obtained her degree as a Registered Veterinary Technician. She has 18 years of experience with small animals; 10 of those being solely emergency and critical care work. Amanda’s extensive training in handling critical care patients is a great addition to our Internal Medicine Service. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her husband and their two cats, Mike and Abby. She also enjoys reading, shopping, and watching football with friends.
Registered Veterinary Technician – Surgical Service
Tiffany has worked with animals for over ten years. She began when she was only 17, when she was offered her first job by a vet when they were both volunteers helping the abandoned and missing pets following Hurricane Katrina. She continued her education, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from LSU, and then went on to earn a degree, from BRCC, as a Registered Veterinary Technician. She has been with BRVS for 3 years now working our internal medicine and surgical departments. She enjoys helping at fund raisers and free spay/neuter weekends. She has three dogs, two Pit Bull Terriers, and a one eyed French Bulldog puppy. Her additional interests include traveling, painting, and spending time with family and friends (human ones too --sometimes).
Registered Veterinary Technician – Surgical Service
Sandy is a native of Baton Rouge and received her AAS in Veterinary Technology at Delgado Community College in 2012. She has been in the veterinary care field for 12+ years. Sandy enjoys working in the small animal surgical field and being part of a team committed to providing high quality veterinary care. She has a special love for “Bully” breeds. She strives to better her career through experiencing challenging cases. Her furry family consists of two pit bulls, Achelois and Ares, and Aurora, a Catahoula/pit mix, which were all rescues. In her spare time she likes spending time outdoors and spoiling her fur babies rotten.
Technician - Surgical Service
Shonda has many years of experience in care taking coming from human healthcare to the veterinary world. She is very compassionate about her job and has become an excellent patient care technician. In her spare time she loves cooking and spending time with her family and her 4-legged baby, Poncho.
Registered Veterinary Technician – Internal Medicine
Donielle is a Registered Veterinary Technician that has more than 8 years of experience in the veterinary field. In 2011 she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University and in 2015 she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Baton Rouge Community College. She enjoys making a positive difference in the lives of not only the animals she cares for but the owners as well. In her free time enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their 3 cats, Milo, Jade, and Titan and their dog Archie.
Technician – Internal Medicine
Registered Veterinary Technician - Dermatology
Rebecca Wesley started her career in veterinary medicine over 20 years ago as a volunteer kennel worker. Since then she has worked in small animal, internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, exotic and zoologic medicines in four different southern states. During her experience, she received an AS in Zoo Animal Technology and an AS in Veterinary Technology. Her most recent career was in academia. Rebecca thoroughly enjoyed teaching as an assistant professor in veterinary technology but missed the relationships with her patients. She was more than excited to get back into ophthalmology where she can pursue her specialty certification in the field given by the AVOT (Academy of Veterinary Ophthalmic Technicians). In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys cooking for her husband, 7 yr old daughter and 4-year-old son. The household also includes a polydactyl cat named Mikee, a Chihuahua-cockapoo named Indiana, and African spurred thigh tortoise named Short-round.
Technician - Internal Medicine
Christine is a hard worker, dedicated to providing excellent eye care to your pets. She worked her way up from being a kennel technician to her current position, where she helps provide the best care and outstanding compassion she believes all pets deserve. She is currently in school for her Associate Degree in science to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. She is married and has 3 dogs (Caspian, Duke, and Marlie), 1 cat (Zelda), 9 tropical fish, and Freddie the puffer fish. In her free time she enjoys camping, horseback riding, motocross, and video gaming.
Customer Service Representative
Stacey, a native of Pride, LA, has been working in the veterinary field for over 13 years. She has been an animal lover all of her life. Her furry family consists of her Chihuahua, Lolee Dean, her cat, Dottie Mae, and her featherless crazy bird, DeeDee. She enjoys traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with family.
Trishia Hadley graduated from Delgado Community College in 2009 as a Registered Veterinary Technician and had been working in the veterinary field for over 10 years. She has a special interest in small animal medicine has been fortunate to experience all different aspects of veterinary medicine. Her pet population consists of 2 dogs (Georgia and Maddie), a cat (Milo), and a horse. In her free time, Trishia enjoys outdoor activities, football, & spending time with my family. With her many years of experience, we are happy to have Trishia join Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists as our Referral Coordinator.
